Does Thyroid Disease Affect IVF Success?
Yes — significantly. The thyroid gland regulates metabolism, hormone balance, and uterine receptivity. Even subclinical hypothyroidism (TSH slightly elevated, no symptoms) has been linked to lower IVF implantation rates and higher miscarriage risk. This is one of the most important — and most easily corrected — factors before IVF.
What TSH Level Is Safe for IVF?
Standard practice for IVF: TSH <2.5 mIU/L before starting stimulation. Ideally <2.0. This is stricter than the "normal" lab range (0.4–4.0) because IVF involves hormonal changes that increase the burden on the thyroid — FSH injections can transiently raise TSH, and early pregnancy doubles the thyroid's workload.

TPO Antibodies and IVF
Even when TSH is normal, high TPO antibodies (anti-thyroid antibodies) are associated with a higher miscarriage rate after IVF. Research shows that women with elevated TPO antibodies have a 2× higher miscarriage risk in IVF cycles, even when TSH is well-controlled. How Long to Treat Before IVF?

TSH During IVF Stimulation
